The rights to run the ports were not sold. If you actually looked at what was happening it would have meant nothing to sell the rights to run the ports. US sovereignty was never at stake access to the ports and port security would have remained the responsibility of the coast guard, customs, border patrol, etc.

The media simply picked up the story and sensationalized it to scare people and sell a story. Instead of maximizing our profit on the sale of the port contract we insulted the Arab world and showed that we won't trust or cooperate even with the most progressive country in the region.

The sale of the port contract was probably one of the few smart things we could have done for relations with the middle east. I was pleasantly surprised that Bush was on the right side of that one. Too bad ignorance over-ruled our best interest.

The ports deal was killed soon after it was proposed. No US port is operated by any Arab entity. Further, the UAE is far from a "suspect" nation. It is arguably the most Western of Arab states.

i might want to wager that you consider all Arab international locations to be suspect. And the U. S. has no longer bought off any seaports. they have employed overseas places businesses to handle a lot of our seaports. a number of those businesses are ecu, and some are center jap. yet all go by a similar (laughably unfavorable) protection checks. having stated that, seem at how a lot corruption exists in truly American businesses. to illustrate, the yank TSA protection that allowed a bag of drugs and guns on a US flight (link lower than). Given how unfavorable protection is mostly, the call or the homestead united states of agency handing port administration is the least of our complications.

We don't know how to do it at a profit, too lazy to learn how, so let someone else do it.

I'm sure there is a plan to blame any future problems on Bill Clinton, or his wife. The biggest ports are in New York, right?

They are not selling Them They are putting them in charge of running them. The Arabs are in charge of the loading & unloading of international cargo. They work with US inspecters, they get a percentage of fees. They are doing this because no american company wants the headaches.
