Of course they are not representing us.

We live in a patriarchy, in which men run or influence everything. Because men own/influence the advertising companies and the media, women are depicted as objects of titillation or for consumption by the default target audience (males 18-25).

Because women are also exposed to this subtle sexism on a daily basis, we unconsciously internalize it and start to think it is normal when in fact it is not.

It is not sexy or empowering to be a constant object for titallation. Women are not sexually liberated by being depicted as brainless sexbots in glam mags or the media. Only when women break free from the "virgin/whore" complex that has been hoisted upon our shoulders by the patriarchy, will both women and men be free.

Yes. This is blatent sexism used by advertisers to get one's attention. I'm afraid it is what the world has come to. I'm tired of seeing a gorgeous Model advertising a car or any household product. It's just a distraction. I'm tired of seeing well placed cleavage strategically placed to sell a product. I remember seeing a cell phone advertiser placing the cell phone between a woman's breast to garner attention and embellish the product.

I despise this practice used by advertisers and I'm a man myself. Let's get real and display things for what they are.

Yes. I agree. Women are all reduced to butts and boobs to sell everything from car parts to prescription drugs. I have always hated it too. It's called the Double Standard when women are used that way and blamed for it too. Men are stimulated by their eyesight while women seem to favor what they hear (about themselves). It won't bother you so much when you are older. My mother once told me that and I didn't believe her, but she was right!! @8-)

I totally know what you mean. They are SOOO not representing us. They are undermining themselves, but we don't have to. People just do that to get men to buy their stuff. Isn't that so lame?
