I say that they are good. we have gateway computers here at work. they are 2 years old and they are always on and not too many have been replaced over the two years. We used to build them here but now we are building Apple G5 and Mac mini. we use the gateways for the office and for production. I actually have one at home and it runs good. I think that if you know how it's better to build your own. they might be a little more expensive than a preassembled one but you get to put in what you want and what you don't want. that's the way I have my other pc's

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you would like a cheap, throwaway machine, then good for you. If you want something that will last a long time, that you can expand, go for HP. Or even buy from the Emachines brand if you still want to pay less. As I'm typing this, I am on my seven year old T1096. Stay away from Dell, it is too possessive of its machines.

You should build your own computer instead of buying a cookie-cutter one from Gateway or other manufacturers, it's much cheaper and you choose exactly what you want with your computer, no more, no less. Plus, you don't have to weed out a bunch of bloatware when you first start Windows, like you do when you buy a name-brand pc.

I think gateway is a very good computer well though it still depends on whats inside. But most gateways those days are pretty good.

i had 2 before. they werent bad. i had bad operating systems in them, would have been alot better with xp. they crashed alot, but i blame myself for that. when i would get them fixed, the repair guy would put them down because he said they used alot of exclusive parts and not very universal. i went with a custom built now and love it. hasnt crashed in over 2 yrs but im running xp and i think that has alot to do with it
