It saddens me that things such as defense and assist are so easily forgotten.
Pavel Datsyuk has the most assist (i think...) and Lidstrom is the best defensive player, barely beating Nidermayer. People also have been mentioning Zetterberg, and notice they r all redwings players! lol but anyway you really can't compare players to other players if they play different positions.

So I'm gonna give 3 answers
Best on Offense- Crosby
Best on Defense- Lidstrom
Best as Goalie- Broduer

If I'm allowed Goaltenders, than sorry, I have to say Brodeur. All he is doing is putting a very average team near the top of the league by having what may well be the best season in the history of ANY goaltender.

If I'm not allowed Goalies than I agree with you, although I don't think it's all that much over players like Ovechkin, Iginla, Lecavlaier, Thornton, St. Louis and yes, even Zetterberg. You have to remember that these players are either better defensively or are getting a lot less help.

Crosby is definitely the most exciting player on the ice. He is the most dynamic player on the ice. Even though I am a major Penguins fan, I cannot say that he is the best player on the ice. Too many youthful mistakes. Too many of the small things of the game that only experience can teach. I have watched him take too many untimely penalties, too many high risk plays at vital times of the game. He has the heart of a champion, and the skills of someone beyond superstar. He has not yet reined them in to make himself the complete package, not yet. He knows that as well or he would not work so hard in every game, in every practice. The time is not far off that he will deserve that title. For now I would have to say that the best complete players would be Marian Hossa, or Dany Heatley.

Zetterberg LOL-gimme a break. Some guys might get hotter but Crosby is the best. Although Brodeur is a good answer too, as he is unreplaceable and is actually IMO the MVP this year. Two other guys that should get some talk are Lecavalier and St.Louis but I think that they play on the same line really helps them. Imagine Crosby on a line with either of these guys and he would have another 20+ points and so would they.

If goalies counts, then I would say Martin Brodeur. Otherwise, it's Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin. I would say Mats Sundin (I'm a leafs fan) or Marian Gaborik (also wild fan), but they're not as qualified as Crosby or Ovechkin.

Nick Lidstrom is probably the best but a close second would be Roberto Loungo or Martin Broedur, some of the lightning boys are good too.

Best player...this has to be someone who is PROVEN...defense and offense over a period of time...Crosby is good, VERY good, but he's still a kid...PROVEN over time, has to be Scott Neidermeyer
