At the same time they feel the death penalty is inhumane?

If a person commits a crime, why should they get better treatment and a better lifestyle than the average Joe even though they're behind bars? Shouldn't they lose all rights at that point? Why does the government allow that to go on while the public (and even politicians) complains about how the system works? Is it too much hassle to improve things? Or has the government gotten so corrupted over the years that they don't represent the people anymore like they were supposed to when it was created?

its all those damn human rights activist groups that ***** and moan everytime they hear of something adverse to human beings, what they need to be doing is deverting their time towards helping those in the streets fix themselves up and stop worrying about what happens to those in prison

Anyone who has not spent a week in prison is really in no position to comment about how criminals are "better off" than people who have their freedom.

If you want to see what it's like, the next time you have a week off on vacation, try confining yourself to one room of your house. You are only allowed out of that room for 30 minutes, at a predetermined time, to eat oatmeal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No TV, no music, no cell phones, no human contact. Try that, then imagine living years in that one room, with constant violence all around you.

Jails are not country clubs. And anyone outside jails who doesn't like the conditions they are living in is free to try and change those conditions, or to move. In prison, neither of those is an option.

As far as looking to the government, seeing how badly they've made a mess out of every other social services project, do you really want them to take over living arrangements and food production for the general population as well?

You evidently have bought into the hype, criminals are far from coddled, also do you understand what it takes to make a correctional facility safe for inmates and STAFF? Without a certain measure of normalcy the inmates are going to cause bigger problems, remember they really have the numbers inside to take over an institution at will, only super max is exempt from this, also they are eventually coming out do you want them meaner and more corrupt than when they went in or do you want to be able to reduce crime overall by reducing the recidivism of repeat offenders, you can pay up front or you can pay with your car being stolen, you're home being robber, or your life being taken, how do you want to pay with some help to get them to go mainstream into society or with a high crime rate that makes your very life unsafe

Your premise is wrong. For starters, why not watch one of the MSNBC programs about what goes on in prisons.

Prisoners do lose all rights.
