(5x-35)/5x

just like you would us the distribution property if you were multiplying, divide each term in the bracket by the divisor (5x)

5x/5x - 35/5x

think - what is something divided by itself? - one
think - what is 35/5? = 7 (because only like terms can divide/multiply/add/subtract each other, the x simply stays as an x)

=1-7x

5x/5x - 35/5x = 1 - 7/x

I guess this is the only way to do it. 5x -35 divided by 5x=1-7/x.

(5x-35)/5x= (5x/5x) -(35/5x)=
1-7/x
