The supports that hold the strings are wooden and the tension has warped them so I can no longer get it in tune. The wood is beautiful and I was wondering if something else could be made from it? I seen an aquarium put in one after it was gutted but I already have an aquarium in my wall and would like some cool ideas for something else. It's been in the family so I really don't want to get rid of it, but as it sits, its useless. Thanks!

fill the interior of it with plants that will go crazy... leave the top open and watch it beautify your home... i would use potted plants- though, not just dump dirt into the back of it LOL

choose low growing vines for each end with something bushier for the insides and a tall showstopper centerpiece for the middle...

look into swedish ivy, vinica vines, and dragon trees for a nice combination

Gut it and put in a new media system. Put an access panel in the front. Almost like an old Player piano with sliding doors. This could be the spot where you could access the cd player or whatever else you want to put in it. Other spots on the piano can be cut out for speakers.

Another idea, turn the upright piano into a wetbar. I saw a show on t.v. a couple of months ago where two guys did that to an old piece of furniture. It looked pretty cool.

You say that this piano was a family heirloom. Why not try to get pictures of your family tree. From the year the piano, first arrived to the year it finally stopped being played. The front portion can be removed for piano tuning. Create a shelf, varnished to same color of the piano and insert your family pictures. It will a long project.

Unless it is a Steinway or was played on by Mozart it has no value as an antique and the value does not appreciate.

I would just pitch it, donate it or burn it. You will be surprised how much room it is hogging in your home.

Electronics are really the way to go for Amateur musicians these days.

If it can not be played it is of no value........
