check www.amazon.com, as well as being the number one website for books they will have lots of lists contributed by people to help answer your questions.

It's hard to answer your question without knowing what languages you want to learn and what you want to do, but here are some titles I like that everyone has highly recommended:

"HTML for the World Wide Web" by Castro is a very readable and concise book to learn HTML

"Code Complete" by McConnell belongs on everyone's desk, covers EVERYTHING about programming, and will recommend other books too!

"Head first Design Patterns" will help you understand what design patterns -- probably the most important development in software history -- are about. Once you have read THAT, buy "Design Patterns", the famous "Gang of Four" book. It's the most important book in software, but it is hard to read, so get the :Head First" first.

There are lots of other "Head first" books, and all are good. If you want to learn Java, start with these. The HTML book is good too and is a good alternative to the Castro book.

I'd stay away from the "for dummies" series, they are popular but generally not well-written and they lack important information.

Happy Reading!
