A 'blue moon' is a second full moon within the same calendar month. Because the moon's cycle is 29 days and most calendar months are about 30 days, this doesn't happen very often - about every 2 1/2 years on average. If you're using a lunar calendar, by definition there is never a blue moon.

A blue moon is when it's a full moon twice in a month. The second full moon is the blue moon.

yes actually... a blue moon is when there are two full moons in one year, so the second one... for some odd reason... is called a blue moon
