It means you could wear jeans and a nice shirt but nothing you'd bum around the house in or go to the club in.

I actually classify my style as 'business casual'.
This is what I think it means: not over dressed, but not under dressed.
Over dressed: suit and tie, suit jackets or blazers and skirts.
Under dressed: sneakers, jeans, t-shirts.

Business casual is some where in between.
I look professional enough for work but I can also wear this outfit after 5pm and not feel like "a suit" or like I have just left my corporate job.
I think some women dress business casual to go out on dates, or to go out with girlfriends, or to go clubbing.

Any job I have ever had I have always made sure the dress code was business casual so I would not have to buy new clothing. Though I love, and I mean love to shop I did not want to buy clothing out of my classification.

Also I think business casual ties in very well with jeans.
Just put on a top with a blazer jacket and some heels or dressy boots. It is like you have just dressed up your jeans.
Probably this look would work on 'casual Friday's'.

So basically, business casual is something you can feel comfortable in all the time whether it is 9am or 9 pm.
It is the dress code that is in between.

For my work it means no clothes with words (small logos and such don't count) and no blue jeans. I don't wear jeans anyway, so that doesn't bother me, and I like dressing nice.

For me I wear khakis and a collared shirt of some kind, but not a dress shirt or tie.

it means mixing business attire with casual clothing

eg: khakis with a dress shirt and tie or dress pants with a polo shirt

or t-shirt with a blazer and dress pants

you cant go wrong with long sleeved collared shirt t-shirt under and khakis

It varies with the business. If you are new and unsure, best to overdress a bit until you find out.

It means you can't wear jeans to work which is lame and totally sucks!
