Star Wars Ep. IV: A New Hope , Ep. V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Ep. VI: Return of the Jedi focus on Luke Skywalker and his journey to become a Jedi and save the galaxy. He faces many trials that make him be the hero that he needs to be.
Star Wars Ep. I: The Phantom Menace, Ep. II: Attack of the Clones, and Ep.III: Revenge of the Sith focuses on Anakin Skywalker and how the choices he makes forever alter the fate of the galaxy and his own life.
I did not give any spoilers in case you have not seen it all. These are great films that have everything in them. They are not nerd movies.

There are 6 of them. 3 prequels and 3 sequels.
Sequels:
A New Hope 1977
Empire Strikes Back: 1980
Return Of The Jedi: 1983
Prequels:
Phantom Menace 1999
Attack of the clones: 2002
Revenge of the sith: 2005.
Yes they are amazing movies, they are the essential movies to watch for ANY movie nerd. The originals are considered the best movies to ever be made, in which they really are, The prequels are okay but a must watch. I grew up watching these movies RELIGIOUSLY and still do, thats without mentioning my Hobbies of collecting Star Wars action figures, comic books, and so on.

A New Hope (original just called Star Wars)

Return of the Jedi
The prequels were made after the other films but set before them:

omg. 6 movies. 3 from the 70's and 3 more recently.
My 5&7 year olds are HUGE fans!They watch what movies we have of them as much as they can, till they find something better for a day or two. They love the originals best. They also have the lego star wars games, and a bunch of toys, and oh, about 5 light sabers that they've had or have! One loves Darth Vader, and the other one loves Anakin. Good Vs Evil of one character. Go figure... lol

There are 9 movies total. three have yet to be released. I am a huge fan I have Over 40 Star Wars books from Del Rey

There were a total of 6 released in the theater. I vividly remember my parents taking me and my sister to see the original Star Wars movie in 1977 at the tender age of 9. I can even remember the theater I saw it in, even though they tore it down a few years ago. I've enjoyed all of them and have them on DVD.

There are actually 6 movies. 7 counting the one they're making now which is to be released in 2015. I will be going to see it when it is released.
