I can recommend this hostel I stayed in... it was the most highly rated one... and very close to the center and all the touristy areas...

we had great fun and it was only about £10 a night!

So you should DEFINITELY stay in a hostel!

Have a look at the links below and you will find the best place for you and your group!

Hope that helps

I stayed in a a hostel about 10 minutes from the town center back in 2001. I wasn't that impressed by it, but it was good for meeting other backpackers. It's called the Express, or something like that. Keep in mind that it was 6 years ago.

Dizzy Daisy Hostel was wonderful , friendly , close to Town , walking distance from Train and Bus Stations and cheap as chips. They also run pick up at door tours , Be prepared for Auschwitz , I thought I was and was In tears , well worth going to see, if for no other reason to see the depths humanity has sunk to in the past.

I stayed at the Corner Hostel. It was a pretty cool hostel with nice people. They run a tour to Auschwitz that picks you up right from the hostel. It's really close to the central park they have.
