The door is metal, and I shouldn't alter or drill holes into the door, I'm renting.

You can build a folding screen with wood and the sound proof insulation sold at home improvement stores (almost like a movable wall) to put in front of the door when you are inside the room. I use this for my baby when she is sleeping but put it in the hallway instead of the room. It works but is a little impractical since I have to move it every time to enter and exit.

drill a small 1/2" hole in the center of the top of the door (not in the face of the door, but in the part that is against the top of the doorjam when closed)

buy about 2 cans of "Great Stuff" foam fill from your hardware store or walmart and squirt it into the hole. this stuff expands as it cures, so do NOT fill all the way to the top!!! if any gets on the outside of the door, wipe it up with goo gone after its dry. i would use one can, let it cure overnight and then possibly add more if it needed it-

this is all assuming it is a hollow core door! LOL

when u are done, place a plug (also from the hardware store) in the hole

put some padding where the door frame meets the door.
