i found out that my goldfish has fin rot...

i got the medicine for him and it says to put in a tablespoons of it in a 10 gallon tank

but his tank cant be more then 3 or 4 gallons so we only put 2 teaspoons in because were guessing its a 2 gallon tank
do you just put it in the tank?

but the tank is so small and theres not a filter
do you have to take a certian amout of water out each day?

its hard because my moms been cleaning the tank but she wont be home for another week and im scared to do anything with it on my own (but i will if i need to)
and also this fish is about 10 years old..

has anyone else experianced this?

This small tank with no filter is most likely the reason that your goldfish got the fin rot in the first place. You can treat your fish now and get it better, but until you get it a proper home, it is going to continue to get sick and eventually, even possibly die. Your goldfish needs at least a 10 gallon tank with a filter that pumps 10x the gallons per hour as the size of the tank, or a 100 gph filter. I'm surprised that this fish has lived so long. It has got to be absolutely cramped in such small quarters by now, which is even more reason to get a larger tank and probably even more of a reason why it's starting to get sick. Yes, you are going to need to do about 50% water changes every other day. Also, I would only add 1 tsp of the medication. I really doubt that with a fish this big in a tank this small and adding medication that you can get away without changing the water at least a couple of times in one week. Make sure that you have your mom run you through the whole process that she does so you know exactly how to do everything. Good luck to you!

A goldfish should not ever ever be in a 2 gallon tank. That is way too small. Water Quality conditions must be really really poor. No wonder it has fin rot.

If your fish has fin rot it means that the water quality is bad. Every 3 days take out 25% of the water, then add in dechlorinated water. You can dechlorinate water by leaving it sit for 24 hours before adding it, or adding a dechlorinator.

When your mother gets back I suggest you go aqurium shopping as it is cruel to keep a goldfish in such a tank. Preferably 30 gallons or so.

Good luck

the water is probably very polluted. To change water take out a gallon or so and replace it with water that is the same temperature. You can leave a big pitcher of water out to make sure it is the same temp if you don't have a thermometer. If you have city water, you need to put some chlorine remover drops in there, gotta read the bottle. I'd put only 3/4 tsp of the fin rot medicine in there. Make sure you aren't overfeeding that fish, that's one reason tanks get very dirty.

you have to get a filter they are very cheap and yes you have to put the medicine in the water and you have to get chlorine everything for a new tank the reason why your goldfish has fin rot is because there is no filteration in your tank and every time you feed him etc. he pees/ poops and its inbidded on him buy the fish tank stuff for like a new tank and the drops / tablets put it in the fresh water and you have to wait 24 hrs before you put the fish back in the water

I would use about 1 teaspoon for your tank. the bottle should tell you if you need to change water between each treatment, but nost of the time you don't.

Yep, just put it right in the tank. It will spread around on it's own.

Best of luck!

Your fish is old and you may not be able to save it. Water quality is of utmost importance. The best med I have found is Maracyn.
Good luck!

that usually happens if you put different water temp. in the water. you need to take out some water and then fill it up again but make sure the water desn't have chlorine in it
