It's been said so much that it's practically become a cliche. What does it mean? Thanks in advance for your answers.

It means that you care about the person, but you're not interested in a sexual/romantic relationship.

There are different kinds of love:
Love as in to a brother or sibling
Love as in to a parent
Love as in to a friend, or pet
Love as in an intense like for a thing

My take on it:
To be "In love" with someone is to have a bond that transcends the three above kinds of love. To be in love with someone is not being able to keep them from surfacing in your thoughts, it is wanting to be close to them simply to be close to them and getting a feeling of warmth at the very thought.

Someone can use that phrase if they think you want more than they are willing to give, or that they don't see you as a life partner.

It is a copout, an excuse, nothing more than a way out of a relationship. It makes the "breaker-upper" feel better about the split. Maybe not so much for the "break-upee".

mm good question...i believe that the first part means that the person really feels romantically and physically interested in their partner. However, the second part means that their love for that person doesn't contribute to their maturation as a more loving individual, and their love doesn't have a 'timeless' quality to it.

Someone likes you as a friend or something like that, but is not meaning it in a way where it would literally mean 'love' like romance.
Or it could be like, a rejection line.
Either way its both closely related.
