Got rid of Windows Me. Too big a pain. Bought a used Mac - I think )Os5?, not sure. And did not come with a manual. I am clueless about Macs, but heard they were better. Boots up fine, cursor moves around, get stuff in the corner (icons) Other box tells me I'm not connected to internet. Then I get "Open transport error occurred -3259." Then everything locks up, cursor won't move. What's it mean? And where can I get a manual or learn how to use it? Nobody I know owns a Mac. Even the electronics store here says he doesn't know anything either, he's never had one come in to the shop. So I gotta go to my friend's to use her computer until I can learn how to use the Mac. Thanks everybody. Heck, I don't even know how to turn it off, so I have to unplug it 'cause I can't shut it down on the screen, and it restarts whenever I hit the other little button.

Oops, SORRY - it says Mac OS 9 when it starts up. In left corner I get Apple System Profiler photos. There's 35 in there. That goes away and turns into a yellow box a couple inches long, and then the error message comes up

LS thanks. Will try what you said. Color, it's like a grayish and the front panel and apple on the side is like a darkish blue/purple. The side panel folds down. I don't understand about the other. I have to use a monitor.

Try holding down the shift key when you turn on the computer and see if you still get the error message. If you don't, double click the "Macintosh HD" icon on the Desktop, which will pull up a Finder window. In that window, you should see "System Folder" and you can double-click on that. Inside that folder, find "Preferences" and open that with a double-click too. Finally, find "Open Transport Preferences" and click and drag that to the Trash on your Desktop. Reboot the computer and hopefully that message isn't coming up anymore!

Unfortunately, OS9 is getting old and it's hard to find info for it anymore. Used book stores probably have OS9 manuals and how-to books on the cheap.

What does your Mac look like? Is the display built into the rest of the computer, or separate? If it is white or brightly colored, you may be able to put a more recent version of MacOS on it. 10.4 is $129 and it would be a lot easier for you to find support for it. If it's beige, it might be more difficult to upgrade.

Go to the Apple Icon in the upper left side and Click about this Mac. Tell us what it say's there Mac OS Version and Processor. Then I can help you. Unfortunately all the manuals for your Mac can be found online, but if you don't know what type of Mac you have and don't have internet access it's hard to get the info you need.

Whatever you do DO NOT log out the current user, cause if you don't have the password you are screwed.

first of all is it a laptop or desktop? anyway, to erstart u should push and hold the power button second, i don't know what's your problem, but try to go to system preferences. maybe u'll find something there. if it doesn't help, just reinstall the whole system if this doesn't help, u should call the apple store if u bought it there or contact whoever u bought it from. the reason may be in the processor. and actually, it's G5 not os 5 - mac os 10.5 is coming out this spring

I'm hoping that you didn't actually buy an OS5.
It would be VERY old and I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get on the internet. I'm sorry I can't help with that, the OS is far too old for me to know how to work it.

If you are SURE it's and OS5 I would go to the Apple Support page: http://www.apple.com/support/

Look up your question, and if you can't find it, e-mail someone about it.
