I'm 13 years old and I want to play football next year in high school. I am a very small kid for my age. My main question is what's the best way to get faster, and jump higher? Also is there any trick to get more muscle (abs and arms) besides just lifting weights and crunches? Thanks.

Im 16 and a freshman in highschool i was the only freshman that played highschool... im also under sized so dont let that bring you down... just becuz your udnersized dont mean you CANT do it .. Look at Derrick Brooks... and as for fast Ankle weights is a good thing... in the off season use your ankle weights and you should get faster... u can run up a hill and that would help like your resistance for like whne you get hit .. your used to the resistance and it can help you there..and then running down the hill can help too becuz it helps with your long strides....-

If you want to get faster you can go out and buy a sports parachute. If you go out and run for about 40 yards with it on it should make you get faster. I do not know how to make your arms or abs but I do know that if you want to have more muscle in your legs go to a football stadium and run some stairs. Just run up and down for as long as you can take it. Also if you want to jump higher it might help to make your calf muscles bigger and stronger. And last DO NOT QUIT! The worst thing you could do is quit because you have went through all of those hot and dreadful practices and wasted time that you could of been doing something else. It will get easier so do not quit. Atleast finish out the season and if you dont like it you dont have to do it next year.

Try lifting every other day , and doing alot of cardio. If u want take some protein drinks for building some muscle .Another way to help u out, is to remember to always get really low , when doing tackling drills, etc.The guy with the lowest center of gravity usually always wins the battle. Also try to be patient for seeing results in building muscle, it can take 6 to 12 months before U see results. All it is is hard work and dedication!

The short answer is that there are no shortcuts. Working out is the only way to get stronger that lasts a whole season. In addition to working out though, you could also study the game and learn how things are done and why: improve your techniques for tackling, blocking, etc. That will impress the coaches the most.
