Am I emo? Please answer?

well i am 13 going to be 14 soon. I listen to emo music like fall out boy, P!atd, three days grace and stuff like that..I have emo glasses (black frames,plastic,rectangleish) my friends are emo and i have been called emo be4. but i wear just sweatshirts jeans and converse shoes. and my friend ashley doesnt think im emo at all. so am i?

I hate it when people are labeled such as "preppie" or "emo" and such. Emo is a kind of music. Well, I guess you could be on the rocker side, but everyone is different, so it shouldn't matter if you are emo or not. Besides, emo people are EMO, as in EMOTIONAL, as in pessimistic, negative, looks at downsides of life, thinks deathly thoughts. And usually rockers or emos have much more music taste than those bands. Practically the whole country loves those bands. Usually "emos" like very non-mainstream bands, and tend to think that Panic and Fall Out Boy is really shallow. A lot of emos actually don't always listen to hardcore or w/e....They listen to almost everything.

Might I add, that wearing black a lot is another characteristic? Though, again, being labeled as "emo" is stupid. You can be emo and not wear black. Doesn't mean you arent emotional and depressed. Besides, I think when you wear black, or other colors, it represents your moods, and your feelings...otherwise it's called being a POSER.

Well, the thing is, do you want to be emo? If you want to be emo, then I guess keep on going with what you are doing. If not, I am an emo because I am deppressed. Not because all my friends are doing it. It's not really some fad, it's, I think, a way of life.

Here are a couple of things I do:
* Tight Skinny Jeans
* Horn Rimmed Glasses
* CONVERSE IS A MUST
* Emo Music (of course)
* I let no one say to me 'being emo is uncool' or anything!
* Just remember: Emo is a way of life, not just a fad, and emos are COOL!!!!!!!!!!

* Skinny Jeans (both boys and girls)
* Stripey Jumpers (As tight as possible)
* Converse (Usually drawn on)
* Long Black Hair (Worn swept to the side, usually)
* Too Small Sweaters (Trust me, too small)
* Black Horn Rimmed Glasses (Sometimes)
* Considered dark, depressed, or misunderstood.

Now, Emo is described as...
A.) A genre of music
B.)Style of fashion
C.)Lifestyle/Subculture

If you like the music, the clothing, the style, then it's your prerogative, it DOES NOT nessacarily mean you are Emo.

;) Don't worry about it, if you want to be considered "Emo" then consider yourself as such. If you don't, then just say you've adapted the style.

Emo is a lot more than a fashion.
Emo came from "emotional" Deprression and cutting are common, but don't do it! Depression sucks, and wanting to cut is even worse. Trust me.
I love converse also. High top black ones. I wear black all the time. White studded belt also. I could be called emo because of my dress, but it is more in how I act.
I love Panic! at the Disco. They rock.
By dress, you can be if you want to. Don't go into the mood part of it.

"emo" is probably the stupidest stereotype i've ever heard. some people say that emo means u cut yourself, but i don't think thats what your talking about. no one can tell u that ur emo. emo means emotional, and everyones emotional. also, their are happy emotions, so does emo mean happy?? it very well could. Next time someone calls u emo, i advise u to ask them if they are. when they say no, say "what, you don't have emotions or feeling- good or bad?"

Back in the day (early 1990's) if you wore converse shoes you fit the "alternative" bill.... I don't think that's really a classificaiton anymore since it has broken into many other things like Emo...
