I've heard some people say jesse jackson, some say al sharpton, and others say marion berry. Also, do black people really pay attention to what these men say and do in their name?

The president of Black America is God, whoever that may be to each individual. Those people don't represent us. Jackson is a sell out who have no understanding of the black community of today.

Jackson? Yea, right. Sharpton? Though he does talk about the plight of some blacks (which I agree with), he doesn't really stand for or with them and is out of touch with the community. When was the last time you saw him on the city streets talking to people to find out what their issue are and stand for them? Point made. Barry? Come on now, why would you even put a former (maybe) crack-head in the running?

Still, he did a better job than any other mayor in D.C in my lifetime. So I'm not going to discredit the man's achievements because of his personal issues. The government knew he was on crack before they arrested him. He was starting to bring to many jobs into the city for the black youth, setting up programs that actually benefited the youth, and set up recreational facilities to keep the children out of gangs and "street life." You know they weren't going to allow this to keep flourishing. Now, all of the things he established have been taken away for the worse.

Mayor Williams is the only other mayor we've had that has done as much good as Barry in D.C. And the government hates/hated him for it. He started a D.C college tuition program that they are trying to get rid of now that the inner city youth's college attendance is starting to grow. Black youth that is.

No one man represents Black Americans.

I for one, am tired of Black and White people trying to make us into a monolithic people. We are individuals just like other people.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Marion Berry do NOT represent Black Americans PERIOD! And they do nothing in my name.

We are citizens of the United States of America!

These men are opportunist. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharp ton can't tell me anything. There will never be another Martin Luther King to show us the way. I'd say now that the president of black America would have to be Julian Bond. After Dr. King passed away, he became my hero. I use to love H. Rap Brown but he changed his name and killed a policeman!

To ask that question is to state that there are seperate Americas and an electoral process of some sort to elect a president. A better worded question would probably have have been who do members of black america see as a leader?

What are you a spaceman? "Take me to your leader!" We Black people have the same President (unfornately it's Dubya) as everyone elso in this country. The community activists you've named are ministers who speak out against injustices. Most of us don't give them as much credit as you may think. My true leader is God Almighty, Whom I put all trust and faith and every confidence in! I am not a worshiper of men. Having said that, I hope that you are enlightened and would refrain from untrained and unwarranted diagnosis upon the Black race.
