I completely agree with you...I think people are too too in a hurry and could care less about proper spelling.

Keep in mind that quite a few people here do not have English as their mother tongue, and that there's quite a lot of children around as well. You should also keep in mind that English is notoriously hard to spell - because of the history of English, with words spelled according to both French and Anglosaxon principles, the rules of spelling are very arbitrary; very few words are "spelled as they are spoken". With all this in mind, it isn't really that strange that people misspell. Spell checkers can only fix some kinds of misspellings, and usually those that are easiest to avoid.

Myself, I refuse to use spellcheckers, because I'm too proud to have a stupid machine have opinions on my writing. You can't let them doubt who's in charge...

I find it rather annoying myself. That and people running cellphone usage into the ground.

But what can you do other than knock these people on the head a couple of times because you know they are too lazy to press the "Check Spelling" button or when it's time to put that dumb phone down when they are driving on the freeway or eating at a restaurant talking with friends and talking on the phone?

There's just nothing you and I can do about it. You and I just have to let it be and realize that people are people.

Just because something is available doesn't mean people will use it. People are in a hurry. Some are kids and I think they really just don't care. Then we have the true illiterate people which is really sad but I guess it's best to have them on here they may learn something unexpectedly. Which will make them a better person with out them even knowing it.

I bet after you typed this question you payed extra attention to the spelling of the words because people on Answers are ruthless and very quick to criticize a mistake. There is alot of ignorance on this website. I try not to waste my time with the "stupids" to much. You cant police everybody...so dont worry about it.

Thanks for reminding everyone. I would guess that some people don't care about spelling; some people misspell words just to be cute; and some people may have difficulty with the English language.

Because they're rushing to be the first to answer, not to mention the fact that they just don't care. I don't mind if it's just a few misspellings or typos, but if it's illegible because of misspellings, poor grammar, netspeak or slang, then it makes my head hurt to read it and I ignore it.

Hi Yorkiequeen, I`m going to take a wild guess that you like to answer "etiquette" questions?. To answer your question, it`s pretty simple. Some folks use slang (wut,whut,dis,dat,sup..) and some folks just plain can`t spell.......Hey? R..u..checking my grammar right now? he-he

They get into too big of a hurry because they don't want their answer to be waaayyy at the bottom. And some really do need to go back to school.

For the same reason that people can't punctuate correctly. Not everyone learns how correctly, and not everyone is willing to take the time to check their work.
