i have a 40x max compact disk drive and its not responding. I think that one of the wiers are lose. Even when on go on my computer it gives me all my drive execpt the d:/. But thw drivw open up. help is needed. THANKS

Try reseating the IDE cable.
Unplug it from the CD drive & then reconnect it.
Do the same where the cable connects to the mainboard.
If this fails you may try replacing the cable....if that also fails then you most likely need to replace the drive.

honestly, the best thing may be to replace it. Installing a new drive is very simple, and you can get dual layer DVD burners for around $30.-
