Dissolve them in water, and add lead nitrate.

NaCl will give a white precipitate, NaI a yellow one.

pass out and finally end up a tramp, knock him out and tie him up.... whilst he wakes up, feed him a pair of teaspoons... if he survives, it replaced into sodium chloride, if no longer, sodium iodide!
