They are on a season long winning streak, and all of the other teams around them, both above and below, have floundered in recent stretches most notably Indiana and New Jersey with 7 and 3 game losing streaks respectively, and Orlando has only won 3 of its last 10. Is it possible that the team has gelled, and is a legitimate threat to postseason hopefuls (if they are not one themselves)?

Even though they are currently 5.5 behind Orlando. They have a chance, they east is weak this year and most teams at this point are losing in the east. They are not the Mavs, Suns, or Spurs, but they are doing very well at this time. They wont be able to go 8 or 9 in a row but a couple more they might be able to pull out. If they pull an upset against the lakers I would be impressed and might just chance it and say they get eight. BUT they have to hope Orlando, New Jersey, or New York doesnt put in a run and they lose most of the upcoming games. Yes they are playing really good right now but they are far enough behind right now that they have to hope for help from those above them. Even if they beat the lakers and go 500 for the rest of the year, still gonna need some help. Its odd saying that a team that is 23 and 38 has a chance, but they do. Slim, but its there.

Anything is possible in the east. They are only 6 games back from Orlando and as you said they are on a win streak. But you have to think about it though.

To catch up from 6 games back, you have to win one for everyone that Orlando loses. But even if you go 15-8 to finish the season and Orlando goes 10-Xx they'll still make it over you.

I think Philly could make the playoffs if the win the next 80% of their games. But if tha'ts not possible, they are better off just trying to bring team chemistry and get a high lottery pick

They don't want to make it either. I would hope for their own sake that they do not, they are going to want an opportunity to get Durant, Oden, Brandan Wright, etc... this would be a bad year for a rebuilding team to claw into a low playoff seed to get clobbered by Washington, Cleveland, Chicago, or Detroit. The draft is too deep... I feel bad for whoever makes the playoffs with the exception of the big 4 with a championship opportunity (PHX, UTA, SAA, DAL)... possibly Detroit also.

Does it matter who wants or doesn't want a team in the playoffs? Given the Leastern Conference is so horrible, the 76ers have a shot but what is the pt.?

They should be tanking to try to draft Oden or Durant.

if they can gel together and work harder then any other team then maybe... remember the new york knicks when jeff van gundy was coaching them they were the eight seed and they made the cinderella run to the finals but the spurs were to much for them in the end plus two of there starters where injured... if you want to know more about the story then read:

In this sad and underrated Eastern conference, it is so easy to mention Philadelphia and playoffs in the same sentence, so sad, just sad, sad, sad.
