I have judged a few state level pageants. Other than the obvious, I would say to try to be confident. The confident girl stands out in the crowd. Don't confuse arrogance with confidence. Confidence does not come naturally, it may take you several pageants until you feel good on stage. I probably entered 10 before I started winning any titles. You have to love being on stage, if you are frightened by it, you will have to overcome that fear. Another plus is to be friendly all of the time, smile and be pleasant to be near. Trust me, as a judge, I would remember the girls that looked happy, were mingling with other girls, and generally seemed to be having a good time even during rehearsals or dinner. A couple other quickies...hold you head up when walking into a room, stand up straight and make eye contact with people as you enter the room.

I don't have a lot of pageant experience but I know that girls spend thousands of dollars hiring coaches, buying gowns and paying for entrance fees. Why don't you save the money for college or think about an acting or modeling career where you will actually get paid ins ted of shelling out thousands of dollars on the CHANCE of winning? Just my opinion.

When you speak look out in the audience and be loud enough!
Make sure everything you wear and do is age appropriate!
Even if they say that an activity doesn't count for your total score it will so do the best you can
always smile and if you don't feel like smiling fake it because the judges are always watching

Pageant look for natural beauty. Putting tons of makeup on will not help your chances. During talents they are looking for unique talents but not ones that are likely to scare someone. And during your speech on a problem you would work to fix. They are looking for something that effects everyone but is not super common.
