why do preps always look down on others?

It's called "Stuck Up". They think they are so much better and more intelligent than the "Average" or "Common" person. Once Preppies get a taste of the "Real" world they usually change their attitude.

well personally I find that offensive! very offensive! I am labeled as a prep all the time.. but am constantly told I'm nice! Preps are people who dress nice (hollister,abercrombie,american eagle, aeropostale.. etc.) and the girls are like all girly girl... like scared of bugs, worms and etc! SNOBS are people who look down on other people! see I am a prep, but not a snob! but I have friends (sadly) that are preps and snobs! and honestly, I have alot more friends because of my personality! just because I may dress in different clothing than others doesn't mean I'm above them! I hate when people act like that! We were created equally!

If you mean people who dress preppy (J.Crew style) and are normally the stereotypical rich guy/girl.... then it's not so much that they're preppy, or dress a certain way but that their entire upbringing from birth (if they're rich), screams elitist status.

Which means they grow up thinking the world owes them a living, and expect it. So they look down on others, not on what they feel is their level, or their status.

Completely a generalization, but I think that's what you mean.

Not all rich people are snobs, and not all preppy people are snobs. It's all based on upbringing and their own personal character. It just speaks to their nature, and what kind of person they are - which has nothing to do with what they wear. You can be a snobby rich person and dress like a hippie or like a celebutard (Paris Hilton).

Because it makes them feel like they are something. I used to have this problem early in high school but I would ignore them and think nothing of it. Later in high school more people knew me and some of the preps wanted to start talking to me. I didn't because then I knew who my real friends were.

i think thats stereotyping people who like to wear those kinds of clothing. i think it just seems that some people who dress "preppy" seem that they dont care about people who are supposedly "below" them. i dress like a prep and i dont do that so i think its just a common thing people hear but its not really true about all preps

thats the way it goes they got it hard to i always acted like i was prepie more charming i guess i dont know im real silly so what are you doing im taking the boat out honey nothing but a good time thats the key to life in a way i live in philly i kinda suck na a days eveything sucks 80s were great because today stinks i wana go home im 26 and im sick off it darn it well be happy swettie.

They think they are better because of something money, jobs, house, family, looks, friends, grades (if in school). But you know what I find most interesting? The fact that when you start to think about it, they really don't have anything to be snobby about. Also they look down on people if they are different then them.

A person that treats someone badly usually does it to make themselves look better. If they only had a clue it only makes themselves look worse. Pointing the finger at someone else takes the focus off of themselves. Just be yourself. There are those that like/love you just the way you are!
