I get enough sleep, probably 9 hours a night during the week, and as many as 13 a night on the weekend...but why am I still tired? It's interfering with my social life and school, because i'm always sleepy. I'm 16 years old. I'm not on any meds that might make me drowsy. Can someone help me or give me a reason for this?

Have a blood test done to check your iron levels and your thyroid functioning.

That done, I'm wondering if you are bored? Boredom can make the body feel tired.

How is your diet? Do you eat really healthily? A poor diet WILL make you feel very tired too. Maybe you need to take some vitamins if you CAN'T eat a healthy diet for some reason.

When you wake up in the morning...how do you feel about the day ahead...really think about this....nothing good happening? Try to put one good thing in each day so you can get up and look forward to it.

How much physical exercise do you get? Even a brisk 20 minute walk a day can really get your energy levels up....or swimming or bike ride if you prefer. Try it for a week and you'll see. Get someone to go with you too!

I hope some of the above can sort your tiredness out...it's rotten feeling tired all the time...I know!

Best wishes

You are a teenager and it has been proven that up until you are 18 yrs old you need 9-12 hours asleep a night. BUT most teens do not get enough sleep. 7-8 hours is for adultsbut teens are still growing and it wears your body down and it needs to rest more then an adult.there could very well be a medical reason so you might want to get it checked out just to rule it out.

Well you're sleeping a little too much because you only need 8 hours of sleep but you're not so much to make you tired all the time. So it's probably also because you're not letting in enough oxigen so breathe in and out of your mouth more often. Maybe even sleep less by going to bed later on the weekends and on the week days if you're allowed to.

hmm you might not be eating enough, all though your getting enough sleep, yoru body dosent have enough energy to get through the day. try to avoid coffee, and eat things like oatmeal. also try eating several small things throughout the day rather then one big meal. . . . on the weekends, you may be oversleeping. 13hrs may seem like your catching up, but it will just make you more tired. try doing something active, this will give you a deeper sleep and make you feel more refreshed. Good luck, hope you start to feel more energetic

you're getting too much sleep. you should go to bed t the same time every night and wake up at the same every morning, on the weekdays and weekends. and 7-8 hrs of sleep if plenty. more than 8 is too much and your brain gets into a sluggish state and it can be hard to get fully awake.

you may want to add iron to your diet and calcium. And limit caffeine. I only drink one can of caffeinated soda a day, it helps with migraines and I don't drink it in the evening.

You should have your blood sugar checked, if it is low, or even too high, you will feel like that. Blood work to make sure you aren't anemic...have blood pressure checked, too low you will feel sleepy. And your body could just be demanding more rest at your stage in life, with hormones and all that. Make sure to get plenty of excercise, and drink plenty of water to make sure you are hydrated.

Depression can cause tiredness. So can many other things such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, anemia etc. Get a full check up and make sure the doc does a depression screening.
Simple blood tests can tell the doc if there are medical issues.

I would have a doctor check your blood levels of hemoglobin to make sure you aren't anemic, anemia can contribute to drowsiness.
