I recognize that tree - It name is Steven! No actually I can only get the top part of the picture to download. Is ther another link you can find?

Actually I did get it to come up, I'm thinking it could be a plum tree. Best to examine the fruit. Here's a link to see for sure.

Most likely it is a Prunus cerasifera, a purple leaf plum. Can't tell which cultivar. Hard to tell from so far away, but it has the right general form, so that would be my guess based on the picture given.

P. c. 'Krauter Versuvius' (Zone 4) - flowers but has little to no fruit.
P. c. 'Minnesota Newport' (Zone 3) - is the best for tough climates.
P. c. 'Thundercloud' (Zone 5) - has the darkest leaves of the flowering plums.

I generally don't use them. They are nice when they are younger, but can tend to get ugly with age. Lots of dead branches can occur when they get older and they start to looks really poor.

There are some nice purple leaved crab apples that work as a good alternate.

Malus 'Profusion' (Zone 4) - bright pink flowers and purple leaves that fade to reddish-green. Dark 3/8" red fruit that holds through winter. (20' x 20')
Malus 'Thunderchild' (Zone 3) - single pink flowers and deep purple leaves. Dark 1/2" red fruit. (15' x 15')

BTW: A Prunus cistena (Purple Sand Cherry) is a 6'-8' x 4'-6' multi-stemmed shrub, not a 20' tree like the Prunus cerasifera.

Yes, they are Purple Leaf Plum. Prunus cerasifera. The variety I like is "Thundercloud". It gets pink flowers. There are some PLPs that get white flowers, not nearly as beautiful in my opinion. Great small tree(to 25 ft).

its kinda hard to say. Check the leaves,if they are purple and heart shaped then that's a Forest Pansy Red Bud Tree. If they are green then that's an Eastern Red Bud. they only bloom in the spring. if the leaves are small and somewhat round then that would be a purple plum.

Had to say 100%, but it appears to be a purple leaf sand cherry, prunus cistena.
