Anything to end the income tax!

Europe uses a sales tax as a primary revenue source for government. It works quite well. It keeps cheating down and lets people choose more wisely about spending. It would be much simpler without tax returns and the IRS. You do have to watch businesses though, a restaurant could under report sales and avoid paying some of the taxes they collect. In Italy they busted some suspected eateries by getting the linen service records of table cloth and napkin cleaning. You get the idea, people would pay the tax, but would the business report all the sales. In Italy every restaurant said the credit card machine "She's a broke" ... it was one of those manual imprint jobs that can't break.....

No, I think a progressive tax is the way to go because those who make more use more of the Commons and should have to pay more for the upkeep of the Commons.
