Depending on how much you want to spend, you could consider donating money for scholarship to her alma mater. One of the best ways I have seen this done is donating money to an interest accruing investment and the interest each year becomes the scholarhip each year. You can also donate money to the library or law department on something that would have a plaque with her name etc on it.

If you really want to give her something personal, ask someone in her field. There may be a specific set of books that are essential to her field.

This is a little cheesier, but you could also have a star named after her, since she "reached for the stars and succeeded."

Depends on how big you want to go.

I'm still in favor of a nice watch or pen, even if they aren't that unique. Still, when she gets all dressed up on her first day of work, she'll feel good to pull out, say, a Mont Blanc pen to sign something or check the time on her shiny new Patek.

Those are just examples. I'm well aware that they're on the very high end of those items, particularly the Patek (I just think Rolex is way overrated).

One of the best gifts I received was personalized stationary. The really nice stuff. You can get hand engraved note cards from Dempsey and Carroll in New York (website is the name dot com). She likely doesn't have an engraving plate, but you can purchase for her with cards and then she can re-order from there as needed.

The gift is great because it does away with the need to buy silly cards on every occassion, is the height of style and professionalism, and every time she pulls one out, she'll think of you.

When my sister graduated law school my parents gave her a Coach briefcase so she could bring it to work/court. She still uses it - 6 yrs later.

Congrats to your daughter (and you!)
