I've never owned a Mercedes, but I can tell you that repairing them will be VERY expensive.
You can go to http://www.edmunds.com for more info about the car including what you can expect to pay for one in your area. They should also have reviews and other ratings. I've also had good luck reading user reviews on Yahoo!Autos and Epinions.

I have a 2004 SLK 230 Kompressor and it has been a great car, I don't use it everyday I have an E-class that I drive for work. I've been driving Mercedes-Benz for eight years now and they have always been very reliable, although routine maintenance is a must, just take it in for scheduled appointments and you will love the car. Most people that complain about Mercedes bought a car they could not afford. If you buy used get a MB certified car they treat you as if you were buying new (I bought my first E-Class MB certified) and the warranty is almost as good. I don't know what color you like but for resale value they tend to give you more for a silver Mercedes.

I am not a Benz fan in the least, but if you are going to get one, I would not buy their cheapest model... the price of the car may be affordable, but repairs will not be.
My boyfriend's boss drives $100,000+ Benz and the thing is constantly (CONSTANTLY) in the shop. I guarantee you are going to spend more on the Benz than on your Evo.
If you are looking for more of a luxury sport sedan, I am a big fan of the Lexus IS300 (but I am biased!). Other recommendations would be a Nissan Altima... they have tons of horsepower, it's ridiculous and they are nice and comfy.... or a Mazda6.... especially the Mazda speed model, very quick, nice car... any of these would be much more reliable and cheaper to maintain than the Mercedes.
Good luck.

I would say go with a honda accord coupe, those are decently fast, comfortable, and reliable. I would go with a 4 cylinder manual, as they save gas very well and are still pretty peppy, my 1999 acura 2.3cl outdrives most 6 cylinders.

I drive a 2003 c230 Evolution and am so grateful to German engineering. No it does not cost as much. They don't break down as often and the maintenance is not as frequent as your domestic models.
