reformat? do you mean from fat16/32 to ntfs? or do you mean an upgrade in windows? or do you mean wiping your HD completely clean of all remnants of OS and files?

if you are trying to change to NTFS from FAT system, the XP install disk should ask if you want top do this, Win 98 will nolonger be able to see your harddrive though, and you run the risk of loosing everything, if you wanna switch back. and you shouldn't unless you are having problems that are diagnosed with this as a source

If you are trying to wipe out your HD(why) then goto the a prompt and type format c:. MAKE SURE YOUR OS INSTALL DISK WORKS FIRST! if it don't, your PC will be useless.

If you are upgrading your OS, or trying to get rid of nasty viruses, ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR STUFF BEFORE YOU MOVE!

I went to Xp, and found that my music composition platform was not compatible, I was happy to go back to 98, with the ease of a backup, having NOT changed my file system.

BOTTOM LINE_ if you don't know what your doing, and are using words like 'reformat' without a backup of your whole system, don't expect to be using your pc when your done.
