She is a former American Idol contestant who is now a singer and Academy Award winning actress. Her story proves that you don't have to win the show to be successful.
It's the media that is pushing her in the spot light. They love her Cinderella rags to riches story. The fact that she is an American Idol reject just adds fuel to the fire. I saw Dreamgirls. The movie was a little overrated, but her performance made it worth seeing again.
But her over night success is kind of like a fairy tale wedding. Real life sets in once the honeymoon is over and that is when the challenges begin.
I am routing for her to have a successful career. She definitely has raw talent.

Although I do think she has a lot of potential and is a fairly good actress, I agree with you that she doesn't really deserve all of this attention. I mean, yeah she's pretty, but she's not incredibly beautiful. Yeah she's a good singer and actress but she's not amazing. What I find unfair is that the Oscars were so quick to give her the oscar for best supporting actress in "Dream Girls". I mean, when has that ever happened before, that a person in their debut movie gets nominated and wins?!? Yeah, it's impressive that it was her first movie and she not only get nominated for an Oscar, to even get nominated for an oscar for your first movie is an accomplishment and not so common in itself, and then she actually wins, but most other actors have to wait years and after many movies before they finally win an oscar or even get nominated, even though they might have dazzled in their first movie. Why does she get an exception?

She's got talent, all she needed was a foot in the door.....American Idol. She proved that with the chance she would be on her way.......she won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a SAG Award.

She was an American Idol cast-off. Now look at her. I think she deserves the attention. She came from nothing and now look at her.

I dont know that much about her, but in the Hip Hop world at least, she is getting too much attention
