You can try looking it up on your police office web site, or calling them. I had a similar question, my grandfather was murdered and I wanted info. It is a little difficult to find. But the police or prison that he was in should be able to tell you, it is public info.

Go to the San Jose library and search the periodical references for newspaper articles on the murder. After several years the newspapers are transferred to microfilm.
