Hello! I'm a dance teacher and I was wondering if anyone knows some fun, learning dance games to play in class for ages 3,4,5 and 8-9. I am getting really tired of the things we usually do and need to spice things up a bit! Thanks a bunch!

Dancing Bee - use the spelling bee idea but instead of spelling you say the name of a step and the student has to do the step. When you get a winner give them a small prize like stickers.

Do ballet across the floors with a partner - ballet walks or chasse holding hands, bourrees facing each other and holding hands!

Freeze dance: Everybody knows how freeze dance works. Turn on the music, let the kids dance around however they please, and they freeze when the music pauses. If they don't freeze, they sit down until the next round. You can change it up a bit by giving them categories. Such as "Dance like a bear" or "A spinning/Jumping step." It helps the kids have an idea of how to dance, while still letting them be creative themselves.

Dancing Numbers: This is a really fun and funny game. Use the numbers 1-8 (incorporate this into teaching how to count beats). Give each child a number, and choose very slow music. When their number is counted, have them make the shape of it, using their bodies. Give each student a chance for each number.

Meadow Dancers: This game requires some props, so it's better for a small class. Each dancer gets a small basket. While dancing around, they must pick up small, fake flowers which have been scattered around the room. But, while picking them up, they must use a dance step. So, to bend down to pick the flower up, they must plie, or reverance. It's quite fun, and cute.

I'm a dancer, I'm 13 and have been dancing since I was 3. There was one game I always loved to play when I was little but it never had a name. Our teacher would get out the bars which was a real treat for us because we were little. Then she would stand in the front and we would all take turns doing the moves she told us. We would do it one by one, and she would say different ballet moves for us to do. Our reward if we all did good that day was we would play freeze dance, and we got to use the ribbons. She would let us dance however we wanted and we could use the ribbons which were also a treat. If we didn't do so good we would do a jumping sequence or something like that, that was a workout and more about disapline. That way it teaches the girls to memorize the names of the moves and practice and they will be rewarded with something really fun.

I teach too and I let the girls pick flash cards(ages 6-7) and then they have to do the dance move on the card. The more they answer the more steps they can take across the room to the finish line. They really seem to like it.

lay out cards on the floor with famous ballets or characters on them, like the Nutcracker and Giselle have the kids run a round in a circle and when you stop the music they pose on whichever one they landed on
