You can congratulate yourself for staying out of the Kool-aide. Radicals are either very immature, or very misguided. As you get older, you will be glad you fell on the right side b/c it's easier to think logically here. Ha ha. Really, you will be able to appreciate logic from either side, it's a good thing!

I,m guessing that by "slightly conservative" you mean moderate conservative. There is a growing movement in this country away from stonch conservatism, into a more moderate political position.
I consider myself a conservative, I am a registered republican. I have voted for democrats in the last two presidential elections. I believe the conservatives further to the right have far too much emphaisis on religeon.
If Rudy gets the republican nomination, and I believe he will, he will be the first moderate republican president. He is pro-choice and has many fundamentally liberal views, but fiscally he is still conservative. Many republicans are trying to distance themselves from the current rigime. More liberal views seem to be adoptable now by republicans.

I would check "slightly conservative" to say that I am in favor of solving problems efficiently. I don't really care about half the stuff Rush Limbaugh or Hilary Clinton talk about, and most people think of a completely conservative person as doing exactly what Rush says and liberal as what Hilary says.

As someone who often disagrees with both Rush and Hilary, I probably wouldn't identify myself as highly liberal or conservative, so that leaves slightly one way or the other (like most people are, to my understanding).

If you just want an example of where the sides differ, a pretty non-controversial one would be financial stuff. Think of money that you earn, and think of how you think that your contribution to society (via taxes) should work.

Liberals (in the mind of the opposition) are associated with throwing money at problems without really solving anything, throwing in a "give us all raises" rider on every bill that gets proposed, etc.

Conservatives (in the mind of the opposition) are in favor of having anarchy where the CEO of a corporation gets everything in the world and nobody else gets anything, and the corporations pay as little in for taxes as possible, leaving nothing to run the country with.

I personally am fine with paying my fair share of taxes, I'd prefer if someone who gets paid $1000 pays ten times as much taxes as someone who gets paid $100, so flat tax rates appeal to me, but I kinda accept the way things are as a bit of a necessary evil in the world. It'd also be nice if hobo-type people would be required to get a job in order to get benefits I pay for, instead of being able to game the system and leeching off the rest of us so much. I'd also like for illegal immigrants to not be collecting benefits for tax-paid stuff when they're paying $0 in taxes (I don't hate immigrants as some liberal person probably thinks, I just like people to do it legally and contribute their share regarding taxes and stuff). So, I probably lean more to the slightly conservative side.

Having an opinion, realizing others have them too, thinking it their viewpoint is OK, but not for you.

Not forcing your beliefs on to others.

Believing in a position, and not thinking the government should do something about it, but rather people should be responsible for not screwing themselves up.
