Years ago you used to lots of Esso petrol station in the UK, but I hardly see them anymore!! Where have they gone.

Here in the UK there are no petrol stations named Exxon. We only seem to have BP, Total, and petrol stations run under the name of supermarkets! E.g. Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons.

They have been forced out of business by the cheaper supermarket petrol stations. One near us closed because of Morrisons

Esso in the United States have changed thier name to EXXON around the 1960's. If you have Exxon stations now in the UK, they just changed their name.

well they may finally be calling them exxon now. This is the company that owns them.
They changed all the ones here ages ago.

In the US, they got bought out by Exxon. My best guess would be they got bought in the UK too. They had money problems here.

They became EXXON over here in the states.

There's plenty here in Quebec. One is right at the corner of my neighbourhood.

A lot were sold and the others were changed to Exxon.

Most were sold.
