I just want to get on here to call cookie monster a DAMN LIE!! It's not even possible to maintain a job at 110 hrs a week.. That'd give you 5 hours a day to sleep, get dressed, eat, commute to work, shower, and every thing else you'd have to do in a day. You may have done it for ONE week, but you'd be damn close to death if you kept that going for more than a month. But then again, I guess I could put out a cup and sleep in a box outside of Walmart and tell everyone I'm working that long too.. Pfftt!! Whatever loser...

No. The county that I live in has a population around 100,000 with about a 5% unemployment rate, that makes about 5,000 people out of work that they know of. If you go to all the employment agencies and all the help wanted ads in the papers and added them together, you would come up with about 1,000 jobs available.

So, no there aren't enough jobs, they are all being taken up by illegals or were sent over seas so that they can pay some CEO an extra $5 million a year.

Yes there are, and don't give me that living wage mallarky. I have worked a 110 hour a week job making minimum wage, and held down another part-time job just to make ends meet, and the sad thing is I was STILL eligible for food stamps. I never did mooch off of the gov't though. Some people take PRIDE in earning their living.

No, there never has been.

The difference between now and the '90's by the way with jobs is that more of the jobs now are low paying service sector jobs i.e. burger flipper

In the '90's many service industries couldn't fill their openings because everyone had a job with computers (IT) and it paid better....

That's the closest I've seen us come to full employment

Yes, job growth is outstripping population growth. Open any newspaper and look at the classified adds.
The real question is do those jobs pay a wage that could support the employee if they lived alone. Most people are not educated enough (ie College/Tech School) to get most of the open jobs that pay a decent wage.
So unless you want to sell french fries, go to college/stay in school.

Sure. There are really no limits to the amount of work that can be done, on construction projects, environmental cleaning projects, emergency services, etc.

That doesn't mean that there is enough money available to pay everyone who works. Certainly, very few companies are willing to cut into their profits to hire people to do more than the absolute minimum required.

There are plenty of substandard minimum wage jobs. The question should be are there enough LIVING wage jobs? or Are their enough jobs for everyone to work at their skills and education level?

You need to take it with a grain of salt when people say unemployment is down. They get those statistics by looking at who's receiving benefits from being unemployed. It doesn't take into account people who's benefits have expired, or those who were never eligible for benefits.

I would have to say definitely. However, people aren't willing to take just any job. To many Americans are prideful; illegal immigrants are more than willing to step up.
