Europa (mythology), in Greek mythology, daughter of Agenor, the Phoenician king of Tyre, and sister of Cadmus, the legendary founder of Thebes. One morning, when Europa was gathering flowers by the seashore, the god Zeus saw her and fell in love with her. Assuming the guise of a beautiful chestnut-colored bull, he appeared before her and enticed her to climb onto his back. He then sped away with her across the ocean to the island of Crete (Kríti). He then raped her then she bore him three sons they were, were Minos and Rhadamanthus, both of whom became judges of the dead. The island that she was raped was then given the name Europe or Europa.

The word Vada in Telugu means 'north'; it is also used
to designate higher latitudes in the north. Vada is an
inverse cognate of the word Diva which means 'heaven'
in Sanskrit. In the ancient Sanskrit scientific
documents, Diva was used to designate the Central Asian
and European lands inhabited by Indo-European race
which are located at higher latitudes. Many ethnic
groups, including some in India, do not distinguish
between 'd' and 'r'. Some speakers of Britain pronounce
the 'r' with a flap which sounds like a very fast 'd'.
The Indian city Howdah became Howrah in the mouths of
the British. Consonants V and P are equivalent because
they are labials. That is how the original consonants D
and V in Divi became R and P in Europe.

Who are the first to prepare world map?
Rig Veda mentions ships with 100 oars. The Buddhist
Jataka stories wrote about large Indian ships carrying
seven hundred people. History says that that Telugu
King Samudra Gupta went around the world several times.
The Harivamsa informs that the first geographical
survey of the world was performed during the period of
king Vaivasvata. The towns, villages and demarcation of
agricultural land of that period were depicted on maps.
Brahmanda Purana provides the best and the most
detailed description of world map drawn on a flat
surface using an accurate scale. Padma Purana says that
world maps were prepared and maintained in book form
and kept with care and safety in chests. Surya
Siddhantha speaks about construction of wooden globe
representing earth and marking of horizontal circles,
equatorial circles and further divisions. Accidental
finding of an old map some where can only open
questions. Any continued knowledge must have many
centuries of usage. Only India has it.

In Greek mythology, Europa was a Phoenician princess who was abducted by Zeus in bull form and taken to the island of Crete, where she gave birth to Minos, Rhadamanthus and Sarpedon. For Homer, Europe was a mythological queen of Crete, not a geographical designation. Later Europa stood for mainland Greece, and by 500 BC its meaning had been extended to lands to the north. By the time of the collapse of the Greeks, the kingdom of Europa extended to much of what is now Europe.
