I ask questions to get peoples responses to particular things that interest me. I like to get a variety of views on different subjects. Some of the questions I ask are in direct opposition to my own beliefs but I pose them to see if I would still hold the same belief given different outlooks on things.
It is a closed , narrow and bigoted mind that doesnt take on board other peoples opinions .

By being narrow minded etc I mean you should listen to other peoples opinions and consider them before disregarding them. Sometimes people can surprise you and actually make you change your view on something.

Perhaps because it's badly worded. If one asks "Is it a sin if you have sex before marriage?" it's fairly safe to assume that the person is asking about themselves and is probably a christian.

Since you know that people will make assumptions, it's best to be as explicit as possible if you want answers that make sense.

Why? Because you phrase it poorly. There are ways to telegraph that you're only engaging in speculation or in a journey of discovery.

And to blow wide open your final statement: is it closed-minded, narrow, or bigoted to reject an opinion previously considered and rationally discarded? If so, then call me a bigot, for I reject many mere "opinions."

I agree with you. I ask questions in order to know the different views of people, the answer is objective. That's the whole point.

I feel exactly the same; ask a question about racism and you're branded a racist...ask a question about the war in Iraq and you're hounded for not supporting our troops.

Nice to know I am not the only one!
