The Americans rang the Liberty bell at the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. However liberty is anything but independence in the 21st. century. It used to be defined as the right or power to do as one pleases, but now we must add, within the confines of the law. When the law `confines too much` it changes the meaning of liberty.

Liberty is to be free, not to be forced. We are at liberty within the law.
There is the assumption that men need protection against each other,
It was said that the laws were made
to protect us against the animal side of our nature;-).

Even if the law permits, it seems some have more liberty than others. So what indeed is true liberty?

Seems like it means the right to develop ones own sense of what is acceptable and what is not..laws seem to be words that can be interpreted in different ways by lawyers, judges, and politicians..
