We live in a world of 'improved' technology where we can talk to people the other side of the world in a split second and become involved in cultures that would have been virtually unknown, even a generation back. Yet it seems we can not communicate our most basic feelings and thoughts. Why is this? Have we really learned nothing for all this technology that is at our fingertips?

I think that this new fancy technology is wonderful and generally helpful. For example, when I was growing up and wanted to communicate with my friends, we did not call each other via telephone. We "kidnapped" the parents' mule, tied it to the wagon, and rode that to the friends' house. I remember that this "wheel" invention for our wagons was new to us when I was young; yes, that technology was certainly good and improved communication. Telephones were unheard of when I was young. I had never even seen one until I came to Canada a few years ago. I sometimes have trouble figuring out which keys to push even still...

The only trouble is that my parents haven't got a telephone yet. I've wanted to call them so much to tell them about this new thing called "television" too...but they would need to get this new invention called "electrical wires" yet.

Also, with this new invention called the "airplane," I have been able to go home to visit my mum, sisters, and father, but I do have to take a wagon and mule once I hit land there.

Before I was told about airplanes, I had to tie up my new one-eyed mule Igor (actually, he was used...quite old, but he was new to me since the neighbor sold him to me) to a bunch of logs I tied together to bring me to Canada. I was going to build a wagon with those logs once I got here, but then someone told me about "cars." Now this airplane invention cuts several weeks off of my trip from Russian Federation to Canada, but I still lose my luggage with either method.

Now that I've told you how resourceful we are in the Russian Federation, I am sad to inform you that I did embellish my story a little bit...but some people really do ask things about Russians to me as if we really don't know what television is...technology has not done away with stereotypes, eh?

Nonetheless, sometimes this technology is good, but sometimes it is not helpful either. For example, when I am drunk, no technological invention helps me communicate my thoughts any better, but I certainly think that the anonymity that technology such as the internet provides, makes it easier for people to be idiots though which means that their true self shines through quicker as well...see? They've let you know how stupid they truly are even sooner. Ha ha.

Also, I have an easier time writing how I feel which is possible with e-mail, texts, and such. When I try to say it, sometimes I mix it up...especially in English; I write/type English much better than I can speak it. Maybe certain things such as the feelings you mentioned are harder to mention with all of this technology, but if so much of it is not being said anymore, how much of it was really important to start with?

Forget the technology for a minute. We can all communicate well enough with each other when we want to. The actual problem is in the understanding of what was said, and the different interpretations of what it meant. That is the problem

you are comparing technology communication improvements to emotional communication.

I personally don't see the connection, no matter if cars are flying in the sky or we live on the moon - it's always going to be a battle to get across what we really feel. Fear of rejection and putting our true selves out there is a big part of finding it hard to communicate our deepest feelings!

I think because although we have he technology...we really lack on personal contact and body language skills....talking of the phone does not give you any body language...I worked in an airline reservations office for about 6 years and one of the most difficult things is that--no body language to read..makes it very stressful.

we seem to talk more and listen less.we feel, because of ego,we know more than the other guy and absorb little of what they say and it leds to misunderstandings and bitter disputes some times.we need to be better listeners and also choose our words carefully
