I have been recommended Cozumel. It looks a treat with the greatest mix of history, cuisine, wildlife, watersports and boobies that anybody could ask for.
PS I've heard that Veracruz is very good as well.
PPS Who cares. We're going to Mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

East coast of Mexico is not cheap anymore.

No Mexican beach resorts are cheap right now. Cancun is tourist city, maybe try Playa del Carmen, Campeche. Rosarito and Ensenada on the Pacific side are good, but not cheap.
