Are you sure you mean the 21st century and not the 20th century? The 21st century is only the past 6 years. Surely you can remember some important events of the past 6 years, e.g., 9/11/01, war in Iraq, death of Anna Nicole Smith, etc., etc.

If you're in Europe, look into the Madrid bombings, or the 7/7 bombings in London. In England, the Queen Mother died in 2002. I think most of the big American ones have been mentioned already. How about Saddam's death?

The most obvious is what happened on 09/1/01
And then the subsequent war with Iraq / on terrorism / in Afghanistan
Saddam Hussein was removed from power, tried, & executed

exactly. 09/11... hurricane katrina.... the tsunami... death of pope john paul II... gosh there are so many! but i think these are some of the most important ones...
