If you have any uncertainty at all about your health and any conditions, you should see your doctor first to get recommendations or approval.
Start as simply as possible. You should start by taking a walk everyday. Start with 10 to 15 minutes. Don't say you are too busy or don't want to leave the children alone. Take them with you, make it a fun family event and make sure they know to remind you everyday to go for your walk.
Every week, if you are not straining yourself, then increase the speed of the walk slightly and add some time to the walk, maybe 5 minutes.
After time try to find a street with a little hill or incline and add that to your walk.
Needless to say, this will work much better if you can also start cutting down on the amount you eat.

I heard if you eat your meals in smaller portions throughout the day and are active (like playing with your kids and walking about) you wont gain weight. Now as far as losing the weight, go to your doctor and tell him. I know you are probably thinking the doctor is going to tell you to get on a regular diet and exercise, but with the way the world is going now not too many people have the time or energy especially with 4 kids to fit a workout at the gym in their schedule. It never hurts to ask the doctor about it. I personally don't know your eating habits, but stay away from fast food like McDonald's and instead of taking the car to some place close to home, take the walk instead.

Walk walk walk walk!! Honey I know how you feel. I too am a mom to 4 but was seriously ill 6 years ago that made me put on a lot of weight. I am just now battling on getting it off. I just watch what I eat , keep myself busy and go for LONG walks!! Keeping busy is the key. I either spend time here on the puter or crochet when I get the munchies. Usually after a while the feeling goes away. Its not going to come offf over night and it is going to take some hard work. One day at a time!! Good Luck!

My suggestion is get into a program like Weight Watchers. If you feel that you being overweight is hindering your self esteem, then you must do something about. Your motivation should be health first, and then beauty. Being overweight like you are is very bad for your health. So that should be your first motivation. Going to Weight Watchers will motivate you and you will lose and start feeling good about yourself. Once you see the scale move in the downward direction, you will feel empowered and it will give you the strength to go on and continue to lose. I like weight watchers because they do not use diet pills, and specially prepared meals made that you have to pay for. You have to learn to prepare the meals you eat yourself, and write things down and go to meetings. Also buy yourself a size 10 pair of jeans, and put them on a hanger behind your bedroom door and look at them every night...those jeans will act as an inspiration for you to lose enough weight to fit into them. That is another motivator. But start with joining Weight Watchers and then go from there. I wish you best of luck and I am sure once you start losing, you will continue until you reach your goal weight.
