Birth control is ok if you remember to always take it .

The pill isn't for everyone, an IUD, a diaphram (sp?) or, the patch. It is, learning about your own physical well being and taking the first step to birth control, that will answer this question for you.

I was on the pill for 3 years, before I went off a year and then conceived and had a son. I chose thereafter to go "holistic" and used a diaphram for years, but I must admit, it did take a little of the "zing" out of having sex. The IUD can become dislodged, is more like a foreign object in you than anything, and you can bleed intermittently with its use.

The patch is the latest in birthcontrol methods, and the only real issue I had when using it, was a horrible, itchy rash when I changed it out weekly - which invariably "spotted" my thighs as I placed a new one on a different location on a weekly basis. I apparently was allergic to using it directly on my skin, so I ceased and desisted that and am back on the pill, and I might add, the lowest dose.

So it may take you a bit to figure out a manner that works for you. I think the pill for young people is the best, then reconsidering that after you go off if you plan on having a child, and then readdressing the issue.

Worked for me...

Grace

If you are good at remembering to take pills, I prefer the low-hormone pills (like Yaz).

If you aren't good at remembering to take pills and want to be protected for a long time, the shot is a good option.

The patch and the ring are my least favorite options, as they require you to remember to change once a month on the exact day--I could never remember this!

It's really a matter of your personal lifestyle. Also, bc clears up acne for some people, and for others it can make it worse. It never really did anything for my skin one way or the other. All bc can make your risk of blood clots higher, so you shouldn't smoke while on any hormonal bc. The chance of this happening is really small, though, and your doctor will talk about it with you when you go to get your prescription.

You need to talk to your doc.

I would suggest the shot (DepoProvera) three months of not worrying about either being preggers or having your period.

I suggest you talk to a doctor. That's what I have to schedule one of these days.
