Report them to the police. I suffered 42 years of bible misuse from my late partner's family.

You know, that's a tough situation. Over the past few years, I have found that my family has grown increasingly more fanatical about their faith and it's become very uncomfortable for me to spend much time with them.

As someone who is out and who refuses to apologise for who he is, I have refused to tolerate their ignorance and will always speak up when the topic is raised...sometimes they say things like, "you know, that so and so is gay!" To throw them off, I will retort with " really? Did you actually see their gay card?" This completely throws them off as they then believe that we all have a card, like and ID or driver's license, to verify our sexual orientation.

My cousins used to also say things like "that's so gay!" so in order to freak them out a bit, when they do something a little "queer" I would also squeal in my queeniest voice "ewwww, that's so gay!"

Recently, my grandmother had an accident and she told me that she knew her time had not come because she had not completed all the tasks that God had for her. A little confused, I asked her what more she had to do...and her response was she had to convert me before she passes on. I told her, "Grand, I am so glad to know you will be with me forever."

Realistically, when people show their insensitivty, we don't have to respond with insensitivty or anger. There are many ways to deal with difficult situations. However, if someone physically did slap you with a bible and told you to cut that gay stuff out, it could count as a hate crime and you should report it.

Just because we're gay doesn't mean we have to take everything lying down.

I would first try not to take offense to their action. A true Christian will not slap you with a Bible. Now, while Christians may not agree with the lifestyle choice, they have no right to judge another. God is the only one who may pass judgement. If they feel that you are not living in lifestyle fitting to God, then they should pray for you and ask that you are lead down a path of truth and righteouness.

There is a verse in the Bible that says, "Let he who hath no sin, cast the first stone". No one is without sin, thereby no one has the right to condemn others. Forgive them for their error and try to be the bigger person.

As a gay man myself, I understand their position and coming from a hugely religious family, I struggle constantly with the interpretation of religion and my lifestyle. But I pray daily that God will keep me in the center of his will and have me to live a good life and do good works for him.

Hope this helps.

Say something similar to the following:

"Pardon me, I need to shift position so I can turn the other cheek. And thank you for pointing out the speck in my eye."

"I suppose you must know more about it than I do. Which New Testament verse was it that advised you to replace Christian Love with raw, quivering hatred?"

If they quote Leviticus say: "So, according to Paul's Debate with Peter over Circumcision in Galatians, you're opting to live as a 'Jewish Christian,' as Gentile Christians are only supposed to follow the Ten Commandments, The Golden Rule and 'Love thy Neighbor.' What's it like keeping Kosher?"

I'd have them arrested for assault. It would go to trial and the courtroom would be packed. Could be very interesting. My lawyer is gay, and would love to take on a case like that.

Take the bible, hit them in the groin and tell them to cut the hypocrisy out.

If you don't think they've got the 'Jesus' in them, punch them in the nose! If blood is drawn, tell them that maybe, enough oxygen will get to their brain to know not to bash! =]

Hope it works for you.

Take it out of their hand and slap them back with it, and tell them to cut the sh*t

I'd be really torn between slapping them back and telling them their hatred condemns them to hell, or calling the police.
but, I'm not a violent person, so I'd probably tell them to go to hell, and then report them for assault.

I would retaliate by slapping them right back with my pink pages, which are much harder and thicker than their bible and shoving their bible right up where the sun don't shine.
