Just wondering what the general populus's opinion was on political views...should people at least develop a minimal interest in their country or do you think it is acceptable to just "not care?"

They will care when there are no more freedoms left because the republicans and democrats keep taking small amounts everytime each one gets in office! Freedom in a free land has to be fought for! Today people have it so easy that they don't have to care! The scary thing is, some people care so much that they become the ones who take these precious freedoms for their own agenda! In a free country you don't have to care, but if you don't, don't be surprised when your economy goes to crap because of the democrats and liberals nor be surprised when your moral and political freedoms are taken by the republicans and conservatives! People should have many things like honesty, honor, pride, respect.....ha! But how many do? Hardly any! To answer your question, yes, people should have minimal care about their freedoms, not about their country! To care about a country over a people is insane! To honor freedom and liberty for the people is the best thing possible on this land mass we call earth! It is acceptable not to care because that is what freedom is about but I have little to no respect for these people who just float through life not understanding why they get to be free!!! Hope this answered your question! ~ Libertarian

Having an interest and opinion in government and societal issues is neccessary and patriotic.

However, that is not the same thing as having a "political viewpoint." Politics are divisive and pointless. It's a creation by politicians to distract the public from their incompetence and self-serving nature.

The reason that politicians do what they want without regard to the impact on us is because too many people don't care and don't know what they are doing.

It is the duty of every citizen to edcucate themselves on what their elected officials are doing in their names, form an opinion on it and communicate it to the politicians that represent you, be they in Washington D.C., your town, your county or your state capital.

Anything less and you have no right to complain when they do something you don't like, and you have abdicated your responsiblity as a citizen of a free republic.

And for God's sake vote!

If you don't want to accept this responsibility, move to China , they don't have elections. Your Senators may have sent you job there anyhow.

It is NOT acceptable to not care given that fact that thousands of americans over the years have died and fought so that you could care.

Everyone that doesnt take an interest in US politics and makes a point of getting informed and voting is spitting on the graves of every american that has fought to give you the right to vote.

I think everyone, especially those who vote, should keep abreast of what is happening not only in politics but in our culture as well. There is nothing sadder than an apathetic voter.

I think it is completely unacceptable to just "not care". This is our country and we are what we make of it. If enough people "didn't care" this country could turn into a dictatorship.
