Magazine pages vary both by title and issue to issue by title.

Actually - the number of magazine ad pages can only be attributed to being seasonal, as someone else mentioned, due to ad pages. This is usually not based on circulation. Many magazines have a fairly stable newsstand sale - fluctuaing issue to issue depending on cover - but the ad sale is based on overall circulation including subscriptions which normally make up 80% or more of a magazine's circulation - so ad buys are not based on ups and downs of readership - but rather on marketing goals of the advertiser....

There is an advertising to editorial ratio that all magazines have. The range varies depending on publication and the cost for an ad page. (Obviously the magazine needs to make a profit. usually this looks like 55-45 or 60-40 for profitability).

There is a minimum ratio of editorial however, before the magazine has to pay an increase in postage and would be no longer considered periodical mail. We have to provide page counts and they are verified by Post Office.

That said - even if the Editoral deparment had 100 pages of editorial content ready to go - for say a June issue - if the maxim ad-to-edit ratio is 50-50 and the ad sales staff only sold 75 pages of advertising - then the magazine would only use 75 pages max. of editorial - leaving 25 written pages on the table. This happens all the time! The total page count would then be 150 pages for that issue.

Vogue magazine's September issue is legendary for it's amount of advertising and the magazine weighs about 5 lbs. They can then have a ton of editorial coverage in that issue.

Usually between 180-200 pages. It depends on what season it is and if it is a "special" issue that has extras.

A lot of magazines like that go up and down in page count during the different seasons when readership fluctuates. In winter months, when sales go up, there tends to be more pages because more advertisers want to get into the magazine because it sells more.
