I've been a medical transcriptionist for 20 years and I've always been VERY busy, and the pay is pretty darn good! Since I got my schooling so long ago, I'm not really up on any "online" courses as far as how legit they are or the cost, but I've seen several websites regarding it....I don't know about Canada though. There's plenty of work to be done...people don't stop getting sick! (lol)

You might want to check this website out:http://www.canscribe.com/

Good luck!

I've been a Medical Transcriptionist for ten years now. There are jobs, but more and more are being outsourced to places like India.

If you can get on with a hospital in their Medical Records Dept., that would be your best bet.

As far as the course, I'm not sure, I went through an entire two year Medical Assisting Course.

I think you can take Med. Trans. Courses on-line, but be sure they are from an accredited school.

Good Luck.

Medical Transcription has been through many changes. At one of the hospitals I worked at they eliminated their in-house transcriptionists and sent the work overseas. The workmanship was shoddy so now their original transcribers work from home.

I would suggest to you that you look into coding classes. Coders are in huge demand (I rarely see ads for medical transcriptionists anymore, again due to saturation of the occupation and the sending of work overseas). A two year degree as an RHIT or 4 year degree as an RHIA is definately worth looking into.

You can find many of these programs online. In the USA, our parent organization is www.ahima.org, you can find a lot of useful information their on both coding and transcription. Coders can look for forward to jobs that involve travel (if they wish), consulting, managing, and good pay, not to mention the chance to work from home.

I make over 40 thousand a year with an RHIT license and I just started my career.

Yes there is a demand for it here in the states. I have taken a course and it was quick and easy. But I am great when it comes to memorizing. I took the courses through a tech school not via a correspondence school, though.
good luck

I know a few people who tool the classes and they had a hard time finding a job because Doctors offices require you yo have your own machine which can run from 500.00-1000.00 dollars....The pay here in Ohio can be from 7.00-15.00 dollars an hour....
