is there any way to find out?

No. You can't see the identity of who is watching until they actually place a bid.

And, if I thought a seller would be able to see my identity when I watched an item, I would not use it and simply bookmark the page instead.

The reason for this is that I often watch similar items, or items like ones I am preparing to sell, to see what kind of bidding action is taking place.

Also, there are many unscrupulous sellers on ebay...and I don't delve into their feedback until I am ready to bid...I don't want those people seeing my info until I've checked them out.

Lets say you are interested in one item and you are looking at it and like it. But you do not want to bid now because you want , for a number of reasons, to see how the auction progresses. So you click on 'watch the item' which will appear on your 'My Page'
